Sarva Siksha Abhiyan Teachers Launch 3-day Protest: Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: Demanding job regularization in batches and on seniority basis, thousands of SSA teachers from the across state on Wednesday launched their first phase agitation in the form of a three-day peaceful dharna at the IG Park tennis court here under the banner of All Arunachal Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers’ Association (AASSATA).

AASSATA president Tarak Agung Tarh said, “The careless attitude of the state government left us no option but to launch this agitation as till date not a single mechanism has been created for the SSA teachers in terms of job regularization”.

Earlier, with supports of our demand series of memorandum, series of high level meeting, diplomatic talks with Govt and democratic movements were launched by SSA teachers while shouldering the responsibilities of a teacher but no to avail, the AASSATA president lamented.

From 2010 to 2017, only 8 DPCs have been conducted by the Education Department where 694 teachers were regularized. At present, there are 6850 SSA teachers in the State. If the State Govt continues this slow pace then it will take 70 years more to complete the job regularization process, he remarked.

Alleging the state government of not giving enough attention towards government schools, Agung stated that NGO-run schools such as VKV, RK Mission etc are being allocated crores of funds whereas Govt schools are allotted only in lakhs. Therefore, apart from infrastructure there are many other deficiencies in government schools.

“The government is focusing on creation of higher educational institutions like technical colleges, universities which is good but they tend to forget that ground level education system is as important as that of higher education. This is why the performance of primary schools of the state is poor,” Agung said.
