The first weekend is over and Gold’s box office collection has managed to triumph over Satyameva Jayate’s box office earning by a margin. Akshay Kumar's “Gold” and John Abraham's “Satyameva Jayate” released on this Independence Day and have made a lot of earning. Opening on a holiday always has its perks. Plus, both the films are filled with the essence of patriotism, which is appropriate for the day that has definitely helped the film post a good first day total at the box office.

While the final Box Office collective figures of Gold are yet to be out; there has been news that the Akshay Kumar starrer 'Gold' has earned Rs 25.25 crore on the Independence Day, which dropped drastically Rs 8 crores on Thursday by. Friday saw an upward trend with a collection of Rs 10 crore, which sustained over the weekend with the estimated earnings of Rs 12 crore on Saturday and Rs 15-16 crores on Sunday, according to a Box Office India report.

Satyameva Jayate has also kept a strong and firm foot over the weekend. According to the website, the film will be closing its first week with around Rs 50 crores as its box office collection. While Akshay’s Gold had released on 3,050 screens in India and John’s action drama Satyameva Jayate was released on 2,500 screens. With their mammoth first day collections, the films together had beaten the highest opening day record in the Hindi film circuit, which belonged to Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (so far) with Rs 40 crore net collections.

Akshay Kumar’s Gold is about free India’s first hockey team, which played in the 1948 Olympics and brought home Gold. It wasn’t an easy task because the newly-freed nation was reeling under the horrors of partition. The film evokes all the right responses in you. As far as Satyameva Jayate is concerned, it has an anti-corruption plot, which we have seen in nearly every film back in the 90s, made a return with this film. Both Gold and Satyameva Jayate has recorded strong figures over the 5-day extended weekend. The combined business is approximately Rs. 125 crores net. Ironically, approximately one-third business of Rs. 125 crore was accumulated on the Independence Day alone," he wrote.

Gold and Satyameva meva Jayate have become Akshay Kumar and John Abraham’s biggest openers ever, respectively. At Rs 25.25 crore, Gold has beaten Akshay’s highest opening day collections so far, as compared with that of Singh Is Bling’s Rs 16.98 crores. While John’s highest opening day earning (in a solo film), was Force 2, which earned Rs 5.75 crores. Well, this is just the beginning; both the films are here to stay.
