SBI Chief Anshula Kant appointed as World Bank MD and Chief Financial Officer

Washington: State Bank of India’s Managing Director Anshula Kant has been able to earn distinctive feats of being appointed as the managing director and chief financial officer of the World Bank. The announcement on the new appointment of the Indian lady was made by World Bank president David Malpass on Friday.

As the first woman CFO of the World Bank, Kant, on holding the responsibility of the Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer, will be handling the financial and risk management section of the World Bank Group.

Making the announcement of Kant’s appointment, president Malpass said, “I am very pleased to appoint Anshula Kant as World Bank Group Managing Director and CFO. Anshula brings more than 35 years of expertise in finance, banking, and innovative use of technology through her work as CFO of the State Bank of India.”

He also adds, “She’s excelled at a diverse array of leadership challenges including risk, treasury, funding, regulatory compliance and operations. I look forward to welcoming her to our management team as we work to increase our effectiveness in supporting good development outcomes.”

Anshula Kant will also be responsible to oversee the financial reporting and risk management while working closely with the World Bank CEO on the matters of mobilization of IDA and other financial resources.

While playing her role as the CFO of the SBI, Kant had managed USD 38 billion of revenues and a total of 34 lakh crore assets. Moreover, she was directly responsible for handling the Risk, Compliance, and Stressed Asset portfolios in the SBI.

It is for her proficiency in handling risk management and holding several positions across the organization, that Anshula Kant has been selected to play a vital role in the World Bank. The bank expects her to show similar leadership skills in her new role as well.

The Indian national holds an Honours degree in Economics from Lady Shri Ram College. She also holds a post-graduate degree in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics.
