SC likely to hear AAPSU's review petition

From our correspondent

Itagar, Nov 10: The review petition filed by All Aruchal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU), is likely to be heard by the Supreme Court on November 19 next. The apex students’s body had filled a review petition following the September 17 Supreme Court ruling, directing the state government to grant citizenship to Chakma-Hajong refugees in the state. Speaking to reporters here on Monday, AAPSU general secretary Biru Nsai said, “AAPSU will hold a coordition meeting prior to the hearing, with joint action committee of Tirap and Changlang on November 13 next.”

The meeting is being conducted to understand the sentiments of the people of the area, he said adding that it will help AAPSU to decide on their future course of action. He said the AAPSU is planning to bring the 60 legislators under one umbrella on the issue and decide on the future course of action, if the review petition is rejected. Stating that the current political turmoil in the state is hampering the Chakma-Hajong issue, si said, “It’s time we all come together, cutting across political affiliations and differences to tackle the issue, once and for all.” “AAPSU will hold a mass rally across the state, to bring awareness among the people on the implication of the Supreme Court’s ruling to grant citizenship to Chakma-Hajong refugees in the state,” si said.
