Agartala: Tripura government has proposed a special scheme for the farmers and farm workers who lost their earnings due to the state government’s determined drive against cannabis or ganja in the state during last several months.

It is learnt that the achievement of the state government in its anti-drug move was highly appreciated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the NITI Ayoug has readily agreed to sanction a special scheme for the purpose.

State government feels that some big traders from the state and outside patronized by the previous Left Front government were the main actors in this illegal business. The small farmers and the farm workers were used as tool for their nefarious design.

After the state government launched the anti-Ganja drive these big players have fled away leaving the small farmers and the farm workers at a larch. They were uprooted from their traditional farming habit and now finding it difficult to adjust with the new situation.

The new scheme has proposed to help these farmers to revert to their original farming habit. BJP state general secretary Pratime Bhaumik said we are deeply concerned about their plight and persuading with the government to do something for these people. The BJP-IPFT coalition government immediately after coming into power launched a drive against the narcotics and seized over 30,000 kg’s of ganja and destroyed vast Ganja cultivation in different parts of the state.
