Scribes' body to organise 'Meet the People' programme

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

DOOMDOOMA, July 1: The Tinsukia District Jourlists’ Association (TDJA) has decided to organize a ‘Meet the  People’ programme at Dirak, about 34 kilometers from here in July.  It was decided in an executive meeting of the TDJA on held at Kakopathar on June 28. Dirak which is situated in the south bank of Sadiya Sub-Division is a flood-ravaged area. The devastating flood has decreased the cultivable lands every year and flood and erosion protective measures undertaken by the Water Resource Department have been proved ineffective in the area so far.  The land reclamation measures and newer agricultural  plantation devices suitable for such lands have not been applied effectively to relieve the large number of agriculturist families from immense hardship. The district body of the jourlists also decided to observe the Press Day on November 16 every year centrally at Digboi. It was resolved to invite eminent jourlists from both print and electronic media to the workshop.
