The participants were then randomized to follow high, moderate or low-carbohydrate diets for a further 20 weeks with carbs comprising 60, 40 and 20 percent of total calories, severally. The results showed that over the 20 weeks, calories burned was considerably bigger on the low-carbohydrate diet versus the high-carbohydrate diet.

At an equivalent average weight, participants who consumed the low-carb diet burned concerning 250 kilocalories each day over those on the high-carb diet. “If this distinction persists – and that we saw no drop-off throughout the 20 weeks of our study – the impact would translate into a few 20-pound weight loss when 3 years, with no modification in calorie intake,” aforesaid Cara Ebbeling from Boston Children’s Hospital.
