Shillong: The District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting assembly of five or more persons, carrying of arms and any other lethal weapons or any other items /materials having the potential to be used as a weapon which can likely cause grievous injury or harm to any person or persons and selling or carrying of loose petrol in jerry cans and bottles in the entire East Khasi Hills District.

The order has been issued in view of the information received that the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) has called for a bandh in the whole of North East on the 8th January, 2019 and there is likelihood that other Organisations in the District may participate in the bandh and that such activities may lead to law and order problems resulting in the breach of peace and disturbance of the public tranquility, a riot or any affray and danger to human life, health and safety unless immediately prevented. This order will not be applicable to the Security Forces and Government Officers on official duty. This order will come into force with immediate effect and remain in force until further orders.
