FROM A CORRESPONDENT
Bokajan, Aug 4: Security measures have been intensified along the Assam galand interstate border ahead of the 71st Independence Day celebration in East Karbi Anglong. The Karbi Anglong police, especially the Khatkhati and Dillai police station bordering galand is putting in all efforts to ensure no untoward happenings in the run upto the 71st Independence Day celebration in hill district of Karbi Anglong. Besides conducting random frisking and checking vehicular movements at strategic points, police have been keeping a strict vigil on infiltration routes along the interstate border.
The Karbi Anglong district police is keeping a tab on the vehicular movements in and out the district in the run upto Independence Day. “We have been directed to issue coupons to the highway commuters in all the entry and exit points of the hill district to counter repeated harassment in the check posts along the highway. Any motorist which undergoes police check once are provided a coupon which is to be produced in the next checkpoint to escape unnecessary repeated check”, said a police officer.
Peace has been restored in the hill district after decades long arms struggle and a period of gruesome butchery. The newly floated militant outfit-PDCK is also trying hard to cash in the vacuum created by the disintegration of KPLT militants and any failure to check infiltration will further trigger another round of armed conflict here.
