Security Beefed up in Guwahati Ahead of Independence Day celebration

Guwahati, Aug 12: With the Independence Day celebration round the corner, the city police have intensified its security bundabast in every nook and corner of the city and its periphery. While intensive checking of all vehicles on the city roads is on, the River Police is also conducting searches on the Brahmaputra. Sniffer dogs have also been pressed into service at Railway installations and tracks.

At Khanapara where the central Independence Day celebration will be held, 36 CCTV cameras have been installed. The playground will also have a 3-tier security arrangement. The police are maintaining strict vigil at the entry points to the city, namely at Jalukbari and Khanapara.

So far as the celebration is concerned, the ceremonial flag hosting at Khanapara Veterinary College playground will take place at 9:00 am and will be laced with parade and cultural pageant and other programmes. A 10:00 am fruits will be distributed among inmates of Central Jail and patients in several Government hospitals, orphanages and destitute homes. The evening, beginning from 6:30, will be marked by illumination of Government Buildings and private residences.
