Itagar, April 10: Security forces apprehended four militants belonging to the NSCN (R) and the ULFA (I) from two different locations in Aruchal Pradesh and Assam. Based on the information about the presence of armed militants in Ngeichang area in Changlang district, personnel of the Assam Rifles (AR) launched a major operation on April 9 and apprehended two hardcore NSCN (R) militants. They have been identified as self-styled sergeant major Nongman Jugli and lance corporal Sampan Harap, a press release issued by Kohima-based Defence spokesman Col C Konwer said.
Weapons, ammunition and incrimiting documents were recovered from the operatives. They were allegedly involved in extortion activities.
In a similar operation in Lekhapani area in Tinsukia district of Assam, AR personnel apprehended Anil Kanikar @ Dahotia and Pramod Barua, both active members of the ULFA (I), the spokesman added.
