Security forces recapture Taliban-held Afghan district

Kabul, March 3: Afghan security forces recaptured Taliban-held Dand-e-Ghori district in the northern Baghlan province, an official said on Thursday. “The government forces swept out all the enemies in Dand-e-Ghori on Wednesday night. Since then, cleanup operations have continued in different parts of the district,” the official said.

However, he could not provide details about possible casualties, saying details would be shared with media later in the day, Xinhua news agency reported. Dand-e-Ghori has served as bastion of Taliban from where the militants organised their activities in Baghlan and its neighbouring provinces.

To evict Taliban from the area, the government launched major offensive five weeks ago during which 200 armed militants were killed. (IANS)
