Guwahati, July 1 : A seminar on ‘The Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and Implementation Thereof in Assam’ was held today at the NEDFi House , Guwahati. The Seminar was organised by the Directorate of Welfare of Scheduled Castes, Assam under the Department of Welfare of Plain Tribes & Backward Classes, Government of Assam, a government release stated .
Ananta Kumar Malo, MLA of Abhayapuri South (SC), Assam, attended as the chief guest of the programme. In his speech he said that he was very happy to have attended such kind of seminar where interaction and discussion regarding important departmental issues can be fruitful and beneficial. He reiterated that more should be done for overall development for the welfare of the schedule caste and tribes and appealed to the departments to implement new schemes for their overall growth.
The seminar was attended by Hiren Nath, Commissioner of Police, KC Sarma, Secretary Home and Political department, Binita Pegu, Secretary WPT & BC department among others. The inaugural programme was followed by technical sessions, the release added.
