Semir on cinema of Northeast at Lakhimpur

DIBRUGARH, Dec 21: A UGC-sponsored tiol-level semir on ‘Eight Decades of North Eastern Cinema and Beyond’ is being organized by the Information and Career Guidance Cell of Lakhimpur Commerce College.

The two-day tiol semir is scheduled to be held on January 30 and January 31 at the college in collaboration with Lakhimpur Cine Club, North Lakhimpur. This was stated by Dr BS Behera, the Principal of Lakhimpur Commerce College, in a press communique issued here on Wednesday.

The semir will see participation by prominent film makers, film critics and film persolities of intertiol fame from the north-eastern region. The organizing committee is calling for research papers for presentation at the semir from college-university faculty members, research scholars, film critics, media persons, interested public and students on the sub-themes: Changing identities in North Eastern Cinema, Period films in India - research and creative license, Experimenting with themes, rratives, genres, acting and techniques in Indian/North Eastern Cinema, Stereotypes - representations or misrepresentations in North Eastern Cinema, Resurgence of regiol cinema in India and North East, The Subaltern Cinema in North East, India and beyond, Cinema as a tiol unifying factor in India and the periphery, Metaphors and Symbols in Cinema, Film Noir and Contemporary Indian Cinema, Socio-cultural histories and imagiries in Indian Cinema, Documentary - reframing reality, Literature and cinema, Gender and Feminism in Indian/North Eastern Cinema, Children Film in India/North East, Film Censorship in India, Campus films and media schools in India/North East,

State Focus-Cinema of Assam, Aruchal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, galand, Sikkim and North Bengal, and the North Eastern Cinema in ethnic languages.

However the sub-themes are not exclusive, the organizers said. Abstract of research papers in not more than 250 words should be sent by January 17 and full papers in not more than 2,500 words by January 27 to Sazzad Hussain, Coorditor, tiol Semir Organizing Committee, Lakhimpur Commerce College.
