Senior citizens visit Bilasipara Civil Hospital

BILASIPARA, June 15: Under the leadership of Jagadananda Barkalita, president, Bilasipara Senior Citizens Forum, a team of senior citizens visited the Bilasipara 100-bedded Civil Hospital on Thursday. Among others the team was accompanied by Dayal Paul, working president and Kalyan Chakraborty, secretary of the Forum. Bilasipara civil sub-division was created in the year 1989 and after 26 years of creation of the sub-division the 100-bedded civil hospital was established in 2015 at Diporkuti village under Bilasipara police station, about 5 kms from Bilasipara town. The senior citizens informed that the hospital has not been functioning properly due to infrastructural bottleneck.

In the absence of a boundary wall the hospital campus is being utilized by nearby people as grazing ground, post harvesting activities including drying and stacking of hay, drying of green paddy etc. Theft and burglaries are also reported. Again the 2 km road from NH-31 to the hospital is in a dilapidated condition causing great difficulties to movement of vehicles carrying patients, including pregnant woman. Further, the hospital has three quarters for doctors and three for nurses. As a result other doctors and nurses have been discharging their duties from rented quarters.

So far as the staff is concerned, the hospital has 20 posts of doctors, but only 3 doctors have been permanently appointed while 4 doctors are termed as ‘attached’. Again the hospital has four GNM nurses but no ANM or no Asha worker has so far been appointed. Still worse, no sub-divisional medical officer (in-charge of the hospital) has been appointed so far. Despite possessing a sophisticated operation theatre, no surgeon or anesthetist has so far been appointed. As a result, the machineries are lying idle. Again, the generator is ill maintained forcing the hospital to depend totally on power supply by the ASEB which is most irregular.
