Senior jourlist Gauri Lankesh's killing condemned

MARGHERITA, Sept 6: Margherita Jourlists Association has condemned the barbaric killing of Bangalore-based senior jourlist Gauri Lankesh on Tuesday night by unidentified assailants. Ram Prasad Ambedkar, president of Margherita Jourlists Association, said that Gauri Lankesh’s death was an immense loss to the society, tion and entire media fraternity. He demanded that those involved in her killing should be immediately arrested and strict punishment should be given to them. Pappu Dutta, secretary of Chatra Mukti Sangram Samity Tinsukia District Committee, said that after the formation of the BJP government, many killings had taken place and Gauri Lankesh’s barbaric killing indicated that intellectuals had become soft target in the country and freedom of speech was in danger.

“Few days ago ABMSU president Lakiful Islam was shot dead by unidentified assailants. These killings are a threat to democracy and I appeal to everyone to unite and fight against radical and fascist Hindutva ideology which has paralyzed the entire country,” said Pappu Dutta.

Salil Neog, president of AJYCP Margherita Regiol Committee, Ramanus Lakra, general secretary of AASAA Tinsukia District Committee and Sibu Talukdar, secretary general of Federation of Barua Buddhist Welfare Association of Assam, also condemned and criticized the Modi government under whose rule the Hindutva forces were allegedly killing intellectuals.
