Sericulture office set ablaze at Nongpoh

SHILLONG, June 14: Unidentified miscreants on Wednesday morning set ablaze a sericulture office in Ri-Bhoi district. According to police in the wee hours of Wednesday, arsonists burnt down the office of Sericulture at Mawdiangum in Nongpoh of Ri-Bhoi district. Instruments used for rearing silkworms and office documents were reduced into ashes. Officials said that the estimated loss of property is around Rs 30 lakhs. It may be mentioned that this is the second major incident of arson at government property in Ri-Bhoi district. Earlier, miscreants torched the Meg Mini Tea Factory of the Horticulture department at Lumnongrim Dewlieh in Umsning.
