Seven organizations block Azad Panigaon Road demanding repair of the road

LAKHIMPUR, Feb 7: Seven organizations of Lakhimpur district came out on the streets on Wednesday demanding the immediate construction of Azad-Panigaon Road from Bormuria Tiniali to Bahpati Tiniali. The dilapidated and critical condition of the road has caused people to suffer and several accidents have taken place. Though the poor condition of the busy road has been in the news headlines and local people along with several organizations appealed to the department concerned to repair it immediately, no action has been taken in this regard.

So, the district body of All Koch Rajbonshi Students’ Union, North Lakhimpur subdivision Students’ Union, Brihattar Asomiya Yuva Mancha, Azad Bahpati Retired Employees’ Union, Azad-Bahpati Tiniali Tempo Union, Tai Ahom Youth Association and Tai Ahom Students’ Union jointly staged a massive protest blocking the boad at Ramanichuk from two hours.

They submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal and State PWD Minister Parimal Suklabaidya through the Deputy Commissioner of the district. The organizations have threatened to initiate strong agitation unless due steps are initiated by the administration immediately to repair the road. The district leaders of the organizations led the protest. On the other hand, the PWD Engineer of the district informed at the protest venue that an estimate of more than Rs 6 crore for the repair of the road had been submitted, it has not been approved. He promised to initiate immediate steps in this regard.
