SF-10 set for rigorous training before donning the cap

From Staff Correspondent

Shillong, Jan 8: The first elite Meghalaya commando force known as the Special Force 10 (SF-10) is set to complete the ten-month basic training this month before they head out for another three months of rigorous commando training in one of the commando institutes located outside the State.

There are 599 cadets who are set to take the vow after the completion of the training at Mawiong.

A well placed source told The Sentinel that the training will not be complete without the additiol three-month commando training in one of the premiere institutes that have been shortlisted.

The new cadets have already been specially trained to handle riots and counter terrorist activities and they are likely to take a short break before the specialized training.  The cadets are likely to be sent to either the ITBP or the NSG training institutes. There were 1,600 vacancies in the SF-10, but only 599 qualified in the recruitment tests. The qualification criteria itself speak volumes on the type of men the newly raised force desire.

However, the cabinet has decided to relax the criteria on grounds that many of the aspirants could not make it to the first batch.  More than 3,000 seats are available in the next batch and that too with a relaxed criteria pertaining to all formats.
