SFI launched 'Samshan Yatra' to protest against Bill, Effigy of BJP leaders immersed at Brahmaputra

Guwahati: The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) on Wednesday launched a ‘Samshan Yatra’ (Cemetry Tour) to protest against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

The ‘Samshan Yatra’ was staged against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal along with seven other MPs from Assam. Moreover, the student body also immersed the effigy of the leaders at the bank of river Brahmaputra in Kachari Ghat.

SFI also appealed before the Government of India to scrap the bill.

Speaking to The Sentinel Digital, SFI, Kalyan Buragohain, District Secretary, said, “We have been constantly staging a protest against the controversial bill since it was proposed in the Parliament. This bill was passed in the Lok Sabha yesterday; this particular bill is a big threat to the indigenous people of the state. It will change the demographic scenario of the state. The Government of Assam led by BJP had failed to take measures against the bill. The Government of Assam and Government of India are rather playing a vote bank politics in the name of the bill. This bill will divide Assam.”

Furthermore, SFI also claimed that the adamant Government of Assam had failed to witness the situation of the state, thus making it worse.
