Share-holders of GCSL object to the appointment of secretary

Silchar, May 11: A memorandum was submitted to the Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies of Cachar by the share-holders of Gumrah Cooperative Society Ltd. (GCSL) recently regarding the appointment of Ajay Baishya as secretary of the GCSL. The share-holders raised the question that as to how Baishya who is already serving as junior inspector and auditor of the cooperative society office of ARCS, Hailakandi be appointed for the post of secretary of GCSL. While Jahir Bedwan Choudhury is already working as secretary of GCSL, how Baishya could be appointed in the very post. The share-holders also said that if the board of director has passed any such resolutions then it should be counted as uuthorized.

  The share-holders, as expressing their deep anguish said, though the appointment has been stopped by the department, yet how could such appointment bypassing them be made. They also said that, such steps taken by the department would lead to deprivation of the educated unemployed youth of the area. In case the board of director has taken any such step without consulting the share-holders, then it would be counted as wrong, unethical and uuthorized. They demanded an inquiry into the matter.

  The share-holders also said that, how can an official work under two different ARCS and Deputy Commissioner at the same time, as Ajay Baishya, who is working as the secretary of Matijury Cooperative Society of Hailakandi, has been appointed as secretary of GCSL of Cachar recently. Such an incident may have happened for the first time in Assam, they added to say. The share-holders requested the Deputy Registrar to look into the matter. They also demanded the copies of the resolutions and other relevant documents regarding the order of appointment.

  The memorandum was signed by the Ismail Ali Barbhuiya, Sanjay th, Tahera Begum and along with other 14 share-holders. Copies of the memorandum were sent to the Deputy Secretary of Cooperative Department, Assam, the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar and Hailakandi respectively, The Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Assam, The Zol Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi, and the Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Silchar and Hailakandi.
