Sharif’s son-in-law sent to Adiala Jail

Islamabad, July 9: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law Captain Muhammad Safdar Awan (retired), who was earlier arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in a real estate corruption case, was shifted to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi amid tight security on Monday. He was given one-year sentence in the corruption reference in which the three-time Premier and his daughter Maryam Nawaz were also sentenced over the Sharif family’s purchase of luxury flats in London. According to jail officials, Awan underwent a medical examination in the penitentiary and was later shifted to a barrack specified for “B” category prisoners, Geo News reported. On Friday, Awan reportedly went underground after being convicted. He re-emerged a day later in Rawalpindi and spearheaded a rally of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) workers before finally being arrested by the anti-graft officials amid resistance from his supporters.
