SHILLONG, Jan 2: The Meghalaya unit of the BJP is up in arms against the central leadership of the party for forcefully appointing Shibun Lyngdoh as the new party president of the party in the state.

The members of the state BJP alleged that Lyngdoh was appointed as the party president of Meghalaya without the consent of the State Council Members (SCM) which elected from the various constituencies of the state.

Expressing his annoyance over the appointment of the new party president in the state, BJP general secretary of the state Dipayan Chakraborty said, “We condemn lin Kohli, Mahesh Giri and Rajit Mazumder for not giving us the right to elect our own president who will lead the party in the state but they forcefully appointed Shibun Lyngdoh.”

“We are not against our new president but the procedures of electing a new president ought to be followed and the voice of the State Council Members should have been heard since this is forum which should have elected the new president of the party who will lead the BJP in the state,” Chakraborty added.

Lyngdoh replaces Khlur Sing Lyngdoh. It may be mentioned that Shibun Lyngdoh was the BJP candidate during the 2014 MP election from the Shillong Lok Sabha seat. He maged to garner 95,959 votes.
