Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road will be completed by March next year: Martin

SHILLONG, Oct 12: PWD Minister Martin M Danggo along with officials from the Public Work Department today inspected the construction work of Shillong-Nongstoin-Tura road starting from Rangskhen in East Khasi hills to Williamgar in East Garo Hills.

Danggo who has just taken over as PWD minister, persolly inspected the road, an important road connecting Khasi and the Garo Hills region. Once this road is completed the movement of people will be made easier.

During the inspection the Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress of the construction of this road starting from Rangskhen in East Khasi Hills district to Williamgar, in East Garo Hills district.

Despite many hurdle the construction company has to face, yet the progress of work for the construction of this 264.3 km road is in progress.

The Minister said that the 90 per cent work of the construction of the road has been completed.

“What is left only in the East Khasi Hills region due to the by pass from Sohiong to Lad Mawreng, and the new Land Acquisition Act that come into force,” he said.

He, however, said that this portion will be completed by March 2017.

In the origil sanction for the construction of this 264.3 km road is Rs.1494 cores and after the revised estimate the total cost of this project  went up to Rs 2023 cores and the completion period has been extended to March 2017.

The construction work is executed by the Hyderabad-based company BSC-C & C JV. The work started in 2011 and the target date for completion is on March 2014, but due to many uvoidable circumstances this company could not complete the project at the stipulated time frame.
