Shillong police gears up to tackle traffic snarls

SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills have already comprehended the type of traffic at the entry points to the city limits just ahead of the festive seasons when bulk of tourists from Assam and Bengal will be visiting Shillong.

Going by the experiences of the past two years where visitors are choked in a hours of traffic jam in the 15 kms stretch of the Guwahati-Shillong (G.S road) entering the city, The Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District Davis N Marak told The Sentinel, “This will be on expected lines, however, while we will do our best to regulate the traffic and minimize the volume of traffic.”

Candid in mentioning about the constraints faced by the police even at the present juncture in and around Shillong city, Marak said that as per the proposed management plan, the Traffic In-charge of each and every police station have been asked to provide an overall report of the choking points that led to congestion in the city.
