SHILLONG: A few days after prominent social activist and president of Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) Agnes Kharshiing and her colleague Aminta Sangma were brutally assaulted, there has been a number of negative comments supporting the assault in social media like ‘Facebook’ and ‘WhatsApp’.

It may be reminded that Kharshiing and Sangma on November 8, were assaulted by people numbering around 30-40 at Shohshrieh, East Jaiñtia Hills district.
Some of the comments made by users of these social networking sites have also expressed that both social activists deserve what had happened to them as they had tried to interfere with their livelihood.

In this connection, when contacted R Muthu, IPS, SSP CID in charge Cyber Crime said, “We have already started an investigation into some of the negative comments on social media and soon we will be summoning these people who had made such comments on Facebook.” When asked, he informed that the negative comments which are supporting what had happened in East Jaintia Hills are very active on Facebook. Muthu also said that these people who will be summoned soon might also be booked under the Information and Technology (IT) Act.
