Shillong to host 'Lantern Festival' for peace

SHILLONG, Dec 9: The ‘Shillong Lantern Festival’, a first of its kind in Meghalaya will held in the Shillong on December 19. The event will begin at the 2nd Ground Polo from 5.30 pm. The aim of the festival is promote peace and prosperity.

The festival will include many acts and performances such as fire painting, sand animation, freestyle football, summersault, music bands and flash mob dancing.

Addressing newsmen here on Wednesday, Amazing Colors of India (ACI), Project Director Sumit Gosh said, “This is a festival which is being held around the world during this time of the year to promote peace and prosperity and we want the people of Shillong to celebrate the coming of Christmas with a difference.”

He informed that during the festival there will also be music performances from bands from Shillong and from outside the State including DJs.

“The people of Shillong will get to witness Ravin Bar an artist form Guwahati performing fire panting and P Ramesh a Limca book of world record holder in freestyle football performing for the first time in Shillong,” he said.

Informing that the tickets are priced at Rs. 500 and Rs. 300, he said, “People purchasing the Rs. 500 ticket will also get a lantern free however the Rs. 300 ticket does not come with a lantern.”
