Shun Plastic During Polls: Election Commission of India To Political Parties

GUWAHATI: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has appealed to all national and state political parties to take adequate measures not to use single-use plastic as campaign materials like posters, banners etc during the general elections. The ECI has made the plea to the political parties keeping an eye on human health and the environment.

Such a plea for ensuring environment-friendly election came from the Election Commission of India after the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change approached it in January this year. The Union ministry requested the ECI to impress upon all concerned to take up sustainable practices and try using alternative options to single-use plastic during elections.
