Shun violence, work  towards tion building'

Itagar, Oct 15: Aruchal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr B D Mishra on Saturday cautioned the people of Aruchal against ‘gun culture’ in the Northeast and called upon the people to guide, advise, educate and motivate the youth to shun violence and participate in tion building.
Iugurating the two-day tiol convention on the theme ‘Transforming North East India’ at New Delhi, the governor while citing the terrible losses suffered by the civil society in the Jaff peninsula of Sri Lanka due to the gun culture of the LTTE, said that the gun culture and violence never helpin tion building , a report from the Raj Bhawan said.
Reiterating Prime Minister’s statement that unless the Northeastern region develops, India will not progress, the governor said, “It is our bounded duty to ensure that the benefits reach the targeted population and projects are implemented in letter and spirit within the time frame.”
“In our endeavour towards overall development of the Northeast, we must ensure that the desired socio-economic benefits reach the beneficiaries,” he emphatically said.
Addressing the convention, Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) Chairman Dr Braj Bihari Kumar said that there was a communication gap between the people of the region and rest of the country and idequate development in the north eastern region is due to various factors including colonial policies of the past, lack of identification of works on NE history by the Indian scholars and idequate representation of North Eastern history in history of India.
He also pointed out at the failure of administration and the accountable and responsible persons, who did not carry out their duties in proper way to ensure that benefits of welfare schemes percolate down to the common people.
