Sick mother abandoned by son in hospital rescued

Itagar, Aug 4: A 75-year-old woman, who was left abandoned by her son at Tomo Riba State Hospital (TRSH) at harlagun near here on July 25 last, has been rescued and re-united with her family members through joint effort by Aruchal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA), Aruchal Vivekanda Yuva Shakti, Woman Helpline and Police.

Bojeswari Burman, who was suffering from severe diarrhoea and in need of urgent medical attention, was intentiolly left abandoned in the hospital by her son and daughter in-law, who are currently residing in C-Sector, harlagun.

The son and daughter-in-law left their mother abandoned in the hospital, when the Dr Gomi Basar attending the patient asked them to bring medicines.

The son and the daughter in-law were untraceable until one person gave information about their whereabouts after six days of door to door search operation by the members of APSLSA and Aruchal Vivekanda Yuva Shakti.

They were caught with the help of SI Ijum Basar, sub inspector K Dev and OC harlagun Nikomm Riba.

A wide circulation, in this regard was also given on social media besides informing harlagun and Nirjuli police.

It was revealed after inquiry that all the family members were staying with her eldest daughter in-law at C sector, harlagun. When the health of the old lady worsened, they had dumped her at door-step of the younger son, who later further dumped the mother at TRSH.

The APSLSA team with the help of harlagun Police station took an undertaking from the sons and daughters in-law that they will take care of the old lady and Rs 2000 per month will be given to their old mother.

Disheartened by the ill treatment meted out to her by their sons and daughter in-laws, the poor woman has reportedly decided to leave for her home town Coochbehar soon.
