Haflong, May 1: The North East Frontier Railway is confident to restore the rail services in between Lumding – Silchar Hill section, which was disrupted due to heavy landslides at Phaiding and other locations on Tuesday morning.
The rail communication in Lumding—Silchar hill section of N F railway was totally disrupted due to heavy landslips at several locations in this section following inclement weather causing immense difficulties to the travelling passengers of entire Barak Valley as well as of Dima Hasao at a time when the road communication between Haflong – Silchar also disrupted.
The Railway authority tried its best to continue the running of trains even after earth quake but was forced to cancel all the trains on Lumding–Silchar line from April 26 last following the derailment of Purvattar Samparkranti Express due to landslide at Phaiding Station.
Despite all adversaries in terms of alterte communication and lack of space, restoration work was in full swing at Phaiding and near New Harangajao under the supervision of top officials like Chief Engineers, from Maligaon and even from other projects like ‘Jiribam-Imphal’ etc.
NFR officials informed reporters that as many as seven machineries like excavator, ten dumpers and two hundreds manpower have been engaged for the immediate restoration of the communication. As of now five officers and ten supervisors are present day and night at the site.
Though the restoration work at Phaiding is considered to be a major one, but the working force at the site took it as challenging, said a supervisor.
The rail communication in the Hills section of the N F Railway is the lifeline for the people not only of Dima Hasao but also of entire Barak Valley and the adjacent states like Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram.
People are desperately dependent on the Railway communication being the common men’s prime means of communication. The conscious citizens appealed to the Railway authority to be more vigilant and make all possible arrangement before the onset of monsoon so that the communication remains undisrupted.
