Silchar tea estate, adjacent areas go without electricity

FROM OUR Correspondent

Silchar, June 20: The miserably poor tea labourers of rayandor Tea Estate and residents of its neighbouring areas of rayandor, Khasia Punji, Ulni (Ulni Khasia Punji), Monkush and Bonkokhal have been spending days and night without any electricity. Electricification is yet to be done. In this regard, around 100 people who comprise tea labourers went to meet J R Lalsim, ADC, Cachar and in-charge, SDO (Civil), Lakhipur on Monday. They complained that Anil Goenka who is the owner and the mager of Dilkush Tea Estate is not allowing them to fix electric poles for bringing electricity connection.

Anil Goenka when called by J R Lalsim told her that he has not received any notification, notice letter or any other written document from electricity board or corporation regarding construction of electric poles. He also said that he should be intimated about this within a week. Satisfied at his reply, J R Lalsim too demanded for a written order. Anil Goenka added that if government gives the tea labourers facilities to build houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yoja (PMAY) scheme, then they should work at his tea estate permanently to get the ‘no objection certificate’ from him.
