Silpi Divas observed in Doomdooma

DOOMDOOMA, Jan 18:  Under the aegis of Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Silpi Divas was observed at Doomdooma on Tuesday.

The president of Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Arjun Barua garlanded the portrait of Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, which was followed by lighting of ceremonial lamp and offering of floral tribute by Niren Barua, former secretary of the Sakha Sabha. The commemorative meeting was held with Arjun Barua in the chair. Dramatist and actor Rajib Lochan Bora dwelt on the contribution of Jyoti Prasad Agarwala towards Assamese culture briefly and recited one of his poems. Mausumi Patowari and Chenehi Mahanta, two other active members, also spoke briefly about Jyoti Prasad and recited two of their self-composed poems.

Towards the end of the meeting, a dance item was presented on Jyoti Sangeet by the local artistes under the direction of Jyotismita Barua. Nityanda Das, secretary of the Sakha Sahitya Sabha, anchored the whole programme. On the other hand, in the morning chairman of Doomdooma Town Committee, Dulu Arandhara garlanded the statue of Jyoti Prasad Agarwala near the Railway-level crossing gate while Marwari Juba Manch, Doomdooma Branch, paid tribute to Jyoti Prasad by lighting lamps near the statue in the evening.
