SHILLONG, June11: Bharatiya Jata Party (BJP) members and employees of Mawmluh Cherra Cements Limited (MCCL) on Thursday staged a sit-in demonstration protesting the delay in payment of salaries of the staff of the cement company.

The protestors shouted slogans and displayed placards like "We Demand CBI inquiry", "We want clear picture of the matter" and "MCCL employees have children and family. We also need food, education and justice."

BJP Meghalaya unit president KS Lyngdoh told newsmen on Thursday that the protest was staged to propel the government to address the grievances of the employees.

Lyngdoh said that the cement factory, located in a well known place like Sohra, had stopped functioning since a year and the staff are not being paid their salaries for the past eight months.

"We want the State government under the leadership of Mukul Sangma to take immediate action against the magement of the factory," said Lyngdoh. He also informed that the BJP will be sending a memorandum to the Chief Minister as well as seek Central government's intervention if necessary.
