Sivasagar Development Board not functioning properly

Developmental works hit a roadblock

Joysagar, Oct 26: The Sivasagar Development Board (SDB) is allegedly not functioning properly and this has created problems in various legal and developmental works. As per report, SDB is functioning without a permanent chairperson. The previous chairperson had completed his term four months ago. Since then, the Assam Urban Development Department has not appointed a new chairperson in Sivasagar. Besides, SDB has a workforce of 20 regular employees at present but they have not got their monthly salary for 12 months. The Urban Development Department of the Assam Government had been helping SDB by granting an amount per annum but that too was not properly utilized by the authorities and for last three years the SDB has received no grant.

SDB plays a great role in planning and implementation of various developmental works, especially in the extended areas under Sivasagar Municipal Board. Moreover, all the citizens have to take NOC and due permission from SDB in new building construction works and also in buying-selling land and property under the extended jurisdiction of SMB area. But at present as there is no permanent chairperson in this office, citizens along with various government organizations are facing problems getting permission for various works. As a result, developmental works have allegedly taken a backseat.

Sivasagar Development Board Employees’ Union and senior citizens have urged the Urban Development Department to appoint a permanent chairperson and release monthly wages of the employees as soon as possible.
