Sivasagar District Health Department observes World Tuberculosis Day at Amguri Tea Estate

SIVASAGAR: The Sivasagar District Health Department observed the World TB Day at the Amguri Tea Estate (TE) under the revised National Tuberculosis Programme.

Akhil Tiwari, DGM of the Amguri TE, lit a lamp to inaugurate the programme. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Udayaditya Rajkonwar, DTBO, said that despite an intensive sensitization programme, the dreaded TB disease continues to haunt people due to lack of awareness. The affected patients often discontinue the drugs provided under the DoT scheme. The patients are also provided financial aid for nutritional support.

Dr Arun Mahanta, CMNHO, Sivasagar, spoke on keeping oneself and one’s environment clean, especially baths and toilets. Dr Rajiv Baruah, Superintendent of the Sivasagar Civil Hospital, sought cooperation of all involved. Manoj Kumar Borthakur, member of the District TB Eradication Committee, said that everyone could do his or her bit in the fight against diseases like TB.
