SIVASAGAR, May 31: The District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) of Sivasagar observed World No Tobacco Day with various programmes here in the district on Tuesday.

Many lawyers of Sivasagar, including youths and students from Sivasagar Commerce College, rallied out through the streets of Sivasagar town and displayed banners and placards where the social and health risks of tobacco were written. The programme was aimed at sensitizing the public on the social and health risks associated with tobacco use and advocating for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption.

To mark the occasion DLSA submitted a memorandum to Additiol CJM, District Judge, Additiol Deputy Commissioner D N Morang, Superintendent of Police, Sivasagar  and Municipal Board for better implementation of Tobacco Act 2003, signed by Rupak Razzak (sec) DLSA.

The Parliament of India ected COPTA Act in 2003 to prohibit advertisement and regulation of tobacco business in India.
