Skit competition on Ethical voting

SHILLONG, Feb 22: As part of the Systematic Voters’ Education & Electoral Participation (SVEEP) voter awareness programme, Skit Competition was held on Ethical Voting by different educatiol institutions of Tura town at DC Park, Tura on 22nd February, 2018. The programme was organised by District Election Office, West Garo Hills District in view of the ensuing General Elections, 2018 to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on February 27. Additiol Deputy Commissioner and in-charge election, Sabrella Marak while speaking on the occasion highlighted the aims and objectives of organising this voter awareness programme and called upon the students to understand the importance and significance of ethical voting. Further, she urged everyone to motivate others including their friends, neighbours and family members to cast their vote and participate in the electoral process and called for rooting out corruption by not accepting bribes for votes.

Students of Tura Christian Girls Higher Secondary, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Don Bosco College, Government Boys Higher Secondary School, College of Home Science, Tura Government College, North Eastern Hill University, English Department, Bachelor of Education, Rongkhon, Don Bosco College of Teacher Education and ICFAI University, Tura participated in the competition and conveyed the message of ethical voting and the need to exercise their vote through their performance in the skit competition.

The competition was adjudged by SVEEP ICON of the district and Retired Joint Director, Soil and Water Conservation, Shekar Sangma along with Block Development Officer, Rongram Development Block, Shelley Momin.

In the competition, Bachelor of Education, Rongkhon was adjudged the first, College of Home Science the second and Don Bosco College the third prizes respectively.

Further, in order to familiarise the newly introduced Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machine to the people at large, the Election department, West Garo Hills District have come up with a song entitled “VVPAT” composed by Dolrich G Momin, EAC, Election, West Garo Hills, Tura.
