SMSS demands development initiatives for Athkheliya region

Golaghat , July 22: Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS) Athkheliya regiol unit on Friday organized a sit-in in Golaghat. The greater Athkheliya region in Golaghat is famous in the State for the holy shrine Sri Sri Athkheliya Boramghar. But the region is not so developed and is lagging behind in several fields. Athkheliya region has to suffer a lot during floods. The health and education sectors in the greater region have poor infrastructure.
 In the protest, the leaders and members of Chah Shramik Mukti Sangram Samiti also joined in and criticized the State Government and the district administration for not taking measures for development of the region. The protesters alleged that Athkheliya was considered to be a holy place as the holy shrine Sri Sri Athkheliya Boramghar was located there. But some illicit liquor shops had been set up in the region. They alleged that complaints were given to the authorities concerned in this regard but no action was taken. The protesters demanded the State Government to take immediate and adequate measures for the development of the greater region and a memorandum was submitted in this regard.
