SMU dedicates library in Abdul Kalam's memory

SHILLONG, July 15: The Shillong Muslim Union (SMU) today iugurated a library which is med after former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam on the occasion of its 111th year of existence.

The library was iugurated by Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma.

Speaking at the iugural function, Dr Sangma said ming the library in the me of Dr Kalam was a befitting tribute to him and hoped that it will be a store house of wonderful collection of books.

The Chief Minister also said that many of our traditiol knowledge and wisdom which had contributed to the wealth of knowledge and wisdom have been missed out as they were not captured in the form of documentation.

The Chief Minister said that the library will facilitate not only ardent readers but will also give an opportunity to young budding writers to connect with the thoughts and ideas of great minds.

Meanwhile, member of the tiol Commission for Minorities, Praveen Davar said that the Christian and Muslim minorities in the country has done a yeoman service to the people of the country in the field of education.

Davar, Member, tiol Commission for Minorities, Government of India attended the function as the Guest of Honour and also doted few books to the newly iugurated library.

It may be mentioned that the, SMU was formed in 1905, with a view to the changing geo-political scerio and equation after the partition of Bengal in the same year.
