Social Activist Gambhir Chandra Nath Passes Away

MANGALDAI: An octogenarian social activist, a pious gentleman and a government pensioner of Mangaldai Town Gambhir Chandra Nath on Monday afternoon breathed his last at his residence at Milanpur, Bhebarghat here following prolonged illness. He was 86. He is the proud father of eminent US based Professor of Economics at Sam Houston State University Dr. Hiranya Kumar Nath.

Late Gambhir Chandra Nath, originally a resident of village Nagaon near Pipora Dokan near here, joined the PWD as an employee and earned a high reputation for his work culture mixed with honesty and people friendly attitude. Fighting against all corruption, ‘simple living with high thinking’ was his ideology. He inspired his son Dr. Hiranya Kumar Nath to follow it in letter and spirit. Till his last, late Nath was deeply involved with the development and welfare activities for his birth village and was also actively involved with various social works without any affiliation to any political ideology.

On receipt of the news of his demise, a large number of admirers, relatives, media persons and office bearers of various social organizations rushed to his residence at Milanpur to offer their last homage. Industrialist Mukul Chandra Deka also offered his last respect to the departed soul. Late Nath has left behind his wife, one son and one daughter.
