Socio-Educational Welfare Association conducts IPC health camp for BCPL truck drivers

Dibrugarh: Socio-Educational Welfare Association (SEWA), an NGO, conducted an IPC health camp in collaboration with BCPL among truck drivers of BCPL industrial site on Monday. SEWA, as per the direction of Assam State AIDS Control Society, conducted the camp at Lepetkota, Dibrugarh. SEWA is implementing a Targeted Intervention Project (under National AIDS Control Programme) on HIV/AIDS at Dibrugarh District and the Project is supported by Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS), Guwahati under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of Assam.

As the health data shows where In and out Migration, and high congregation of truckers are there, those districts have become highly vulnerable during the recent years. Taking cognizance of the same, SEWA has already conducted four such IPC health camps in the district. The health camp was organized at Truckers Rest House at BCPL Industrial site.

Manager, Corporate Communication, BCPL, Joyeeta Das, while inaugurating the awareness camp, in her address, emphasized the knowledge of safe practices to avoid the contact of HIV. Counsellor, ICTC, Assam Medical College and Hospital, Abul Ali, spoke on various aspects of HIV / AIDS in general and its transmission and prevention in particular.

The awareness meeting was conducted by Project Director, SEWA, Arfan Hussain. In his speech, he assured to conduct a regular intervention with truckers and request the BCPL authority to continue such support. He also added that truckers were vulnerable and there was a need to spread the knowledge amongst the truckers to avoid high-risk behaviour.
