Sonitpur District Administration calls to boycott Assam Bandh call

Tezpur: Sonitpur district administration has appealed to all people not to respond to the bandh call given by certain organizations on October 23 and has asked all government offices, educational institutions, banks and commercial establishments to remain open as on normal days. A meeting was held on Monday at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office chaired by Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kumar Deka in presence of Farouk Alam, DDC, Additional Deputy Commissioners KK Sharma, Kulen Sarmah, Parag Kakati, members of various social organizations, traders' bodies, trade unions, transport associations and heads of various government departments and other senior district administration officials.

DC Deka asked the officials concerned to ensure all essential services remain available and directed all petrol pumps and ration shops to remain open so that normal life is not affected. Attending the meeting, PP Singh, Superintendent of Police, Sonitpur, said sufficient force will be deployed in all sensitive areas of the district and police patrolling will also be carried out. The public may report any untoward incident at the Police Control Room number 03712-232440 which has been opened for the purpose.

Haflong: A meeting under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao, Amitabh Rajkhowa was convened at the DC conference hall on Monday to urge people to ignore the bandh call on Tuesday. The meeting was held with various organizations, departmental officials and media representatives to make people aware about the directives of the Supreme Court and Gauhati High Court regarding defying of bandh call by any organization.

An order has been issued by the district administration of Dima Hasao, supported by the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, stating three points that all government officials would have to attend their duties normally and that any absence would be strictly dealt with as per rule, essential services like medical, milk and water supply would not be interrupted, public transporters would also ensure that regular service for public convenience. Further, the order states that violation of the orders will be viewed seriously and strict action will be initiated against the defaulters as per rule. The meeting was attended by Additional SP Pushpraj Singh, ADC Jidung, ADC Debsharma, Executive Magistrates Doley and Nobis and other department officials. Many organizations and associations attended the meeting.

Kokrajhar: The district administration of Kokrajhar on Monday held an emergent meeting with all heads of the government line departments, members of business organizations, transporters' organizations and social organizations and requested them to function normally during the Assam bandh called by certain organizations on Tuesday 5 am to 5 pm as per the judgement and order of the Supreme Court and Gauhati High Court.

During the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Baruah sensitized them about the judgements and order passed by the Supreme Court and Gauhati High Court, in which any bandh calls were termed as illegal or unlawful activities. He further informed about various steps taken by the district administration for maintenance of law and order to inculcate confidence amongst the masses. He further ordered all government officers and staff to attend their offices, urged local business establishments to keep their shops open, transporters to operate vehicles and essential service providers to function as usual without fail.

"Any officer found to be absent in the office, any shop found to be closed and damages caused by the bandh call will be strictly dealt with as per the law," he warned. On the other hand, Superintendent of Police Rajen Singh informed about the overall security arrangements in order to ensure peaceful and normal situation during the bandh period in the district. Additional Deputy Commissioners Prafulla Chandra Barman, Debeswar Bora, Election Officer Ashim Borgohain, Inspector of Schools Jagdish Prasad Brahma and District Elementary Education Officer SN Goyari were also present in the meeting.
