Sonowal stresses team work, cooperation to expedite development in Hojai

HOJAI, June 4: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal asked the Hojai district administration to expeditiously complete construction of houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to provide shelters to the needy.

Chairing a review meeting to take stock of the implementation of the schemes of Central and State governments at the JK Kedia Bhavan in Hojai on Monday, Chief Minister Sonowal took note of the status of implementation of PMAY and asked the district administration to lend more attention for the implementation of the scheme to provide affordable housing to the urban and rural poor beneficiaries. He also asked the district administration and other stake holders responsible for implementation of scheme to show utmost sincerity towards quality maintenance of the scheme.

Chief Minister Sonowal also took note on the number of beneficiaries holding job cards and types and volume of work already undertaken by these job card holders. He also enquired into the number of beneficiaries under Social Security Schemes and recently launched Kanaklata Mahila Sabalikaran Achoni in the district. He also asked Deputy Commissioner of Hojai, Manabendra Pratap Singh to ensure that the scheme was implemented in right spirit and no eligible beneficiary was left out from the purview of the scheme. He also took stock of the implementation of Prime Minister’s Gram Sadak Yojana and the roads being constructed in the district under PMGSY. Sonowal also asked Public Works Department (R) to carry out a survey on the network of roads in the district and the total kilometre of roads under construction in the district.

Reviewing the status of electrified villages in Hojai district, Sonowal asked APDCL authority to ensure that no village was left un-electrified. He also asked the PHE Department to take steps to declare more Open Defecation Free villages under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The PHE Department informed the Chief Minister that the department was taking several steps to declare the entire district ODF by September 2018. Chief Minister Sonowal also took stock of the availability of government land in the district and asked the Circle Officers to use the services of lot mandals to prepare a list of persons who do not have land pattas in their name.

Sonowal later said that Hojai was a new district and therefore, all the officers and employees, both civil and police, must work as a team to expedite the development of the district. He also said that all the officers and employees must work so that even the weakest section of the society got justice from the administration. He also said that State government had set a target of bringing about overall development of 3.30 crore public belonging to 33 districts of the State and urged upon all the government employees to extend cooperation to the government’s intent of making Assam one of the front-running States of the country.

Chief Minister Sonowal on Monday felicitated Amar Singh Thapa from Hojai for securing first position in Science stream in Higher Secondary examination, Axat Chaurasia for securing 10th position in Commerce stream, Nahima Firdaus Borbhuya for securing 10th position in HSLC examination and a specially challenged student, Jebin Koch for securing 64 per cent in HSLC examination, in another programme organized by Hojai district administration.

MLA Hojai Shiladitya Deb, MLA Lumding Shibu Mishra, DC Hojai Manabendra Pratap Singh, DIG Bishnu Prasad Rabha and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
