FROM OUR STAFF CORRESPONDENT
SHILLONG, Dec 24: Underprivileged children and elderly people today celebrated Christmas and enjoyed the joy of sharing, love and care.
The objective of celebrating Christmas with these elderly people was to make the day special for them and double the joy of Christmas by bringing them together with the children thereby addressing their feelings and longings for their own dear and near ones who have left them all alone.
The Christmas celebrations organized by SPARK wanted to give the real joy and happiness to the elderly people at the Mercy Home as well as set an example before the children to serve their parents and grandparents.
The programme started with a welcome speech and a keynote address by Shima Modak, Founder & President of SPARK where she expressed the care and concern for those in difficult situation and ensure to stand by them as and when required. Thereafter, a short prayer was recited by Sister Ann, In-charge of Mercy Home followed by cutting of the cake by the eldest person residing in the old age home.
Even as children from SPARK presented some cultural items the elderly of the old age home came to the dance floor and join the crowd.
