Sporting Lisbon extend Martins, Coates contracts

Lisbon, Feb 3 : Sporting Lisbon extended the contracts of striker Gelson Martins and defender Sebastian Coates until 2022 here on Friday.

Martins, who has played 30 games so far this season, will now have a 60 million euro ($64.4 million) termition clause, according to the club statement,reports Efe.

The 21-year-old made his debut with the Portuguese team last October, and demonstrated his talent in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid, becoming a target of interest for many big clubs. Meanwhile, Coates was also renewed and the termition clause of his contract rose to 45 million euros ($48.39 million). The renewal of the Spanish-Uruguayan was closed after Sporting purchased all his rights from English side Sunderland.

Coates, who came to the Primeira Liga last season, has become an important part of Sporting defence, with 28 games played this season. IANS
