SPOs offer prayer at Shiv Dol
FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT
SIVASAGAR, June 2: Hundreds of deprived SPOs (Special Police Officer) coming from several districts of Assam gathered at the historic Muktith Shiv Temple in Sivasagar on Wednesday seeking the remedies of their long-standing problems.
A total of 850 numbers of SPOs from 11 districts were appointed in the year 2008 to tackle the militancy issues in the State. But on June 16, 2015, the SPOs were termited from their jobs and since then they have been fighting for justice for getting back their jobs and salaries.
But the then Congress-led Assam Government did not pay any importance to their demands. The SPO members led by Dilip Saikia, the president of Assam State Special Police Officers Welfare Society said that they had also offered prayers at the same temple before the Assam State assembly elections seeking the downfall of the Congress government.
He expressed his pleasure by saying that the almighty had listened to their prayers by dethroning the Congress government. Now they all offered prayer on Wednesday seeking the prolonged existence of the BJP-led Assam Government and the good health of newly-elected Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal in particular.
He further that the newly-formed Assam Government would surely understand their problems and take necessary measure to solve the issue.
