SSB bs 12 timber smugglers, seizes logs along Indo-Bhutan border

KOKRAJHAR, January 18: The 16th Bn. SSB recently bbed 12 timber smugglers in two different places along the Indo-Bhutan border areas during a search operation.

Sources from SSB said one of the border outposts of the 16th Bn. SSB, Ranighuli situated in Saralpara BOP carried out area domition patrolling comprising of personnel of BOP Saralpara under the command of Inspector PK Mandal and apprehended 10 persons from Nepali Basti (Water Dam) near BP No. 152. Twelve pieces of heavy logs, axe and tractor trolley were seized from them. The total cost of the seized logs is estimated at Rs 6, 42,797. All the apprehended persons are the residents of villages under Bismuri police outpost in Kokrajhar district. Some of them have been identified as Chandra Rabha, Rajiv Rabha, Sweet Rabha, Koken Rabha, Vijon rzary and Sudeep Limbu.

In another operation, the 16th Bn. SSB, Ranighuli deployed for manning the Indo-Bhutan border and having area of jurisdiction of 15 km deep inside Indian side once again succeeded to b two timber cutters from Udalbari area, which is about 10 km south from IBB. The seizure and apprehension was made by the BOP Dholkhola of 16th B. SSB recently while conducting river line patrolling along the Dholpani River under the command of Mobi Lourembam, Assistant Commandant, along with other personnel of Dholkhola BOP.

The patrolling party intercepted timber cutters using petrol-driven timber cutting machine inside the reserve forest. Quick reaction team of the BOP, Datgiri was also informed by looking at possibility of more timber cutters in the area. The combined team thoroughly searched the place and apprehended two persons mely- Baneswar Basumatary of Udalguri  under Shantipur outpost and Manir Mashahary of the same village and seized bicycles, timber beams and petrol-driven cutting machine worth value Rs. 1,74,000. The seized items and apprehended persons were handed over to Range Office of the forest department at Runikhata in Chirang district and a case has been registered under forest act.
