TINSUKIA/JORHAT, March 21: The All Assam Tai Ahom Students' Union (ATASU) today staged a road blockade in Tinsukia in support of their longstanding demand of granting ST status to the Tai Ahom community. The activists of the Tinsukia district committee of the ATASU blocked the NH-37 at Tinsukia in protest against not granting the ST status to them. ATASU leader Milan Buragohain said that they would launch massive protests if their demand of granting ST status is not fulfilled at the earliest.

In Jorhat also, the members of ATASU's Jorhat district committee staged road blockade on NH 37 at Hahsara for two hours demanding ST status to the Tai Ahom community and seeking conservations of the archeological sites of the State. The blockade brought the traffic on NH 37 to standstill. The protesters, however, lifted the blockade after submitting a memorandum to District Magistrate Khanindra Das.
