Stage set for NE Film Festival

Itagar, Feb 16: The stage is set for the maiden four-day Film, North East 2016, with all preparations going on in full swing to host the extravaganza in a more lucid manner. Beginning from February 17 next at the annex lawn of Indira Gandhi Park here, the event is being organised by Festival Secretariat and Film Federation of Aruchal (FFA) under the sponsorship of the state government. Talking to reporters at Aruchal Press Club (APC) here on Monday, Festival Director Moji Riba also disclosed that as many as 75 films from Northeast would be screened during the festival including six films of Aribam Syam Sharma - a legendry film maker from Manipur, three children’s films, 10 films from SRFTI, Kolkata and the best film from host state Aruchal. “Besides the film screening events, side events are also in line including workshop on pitching films and accessing funding and one-on-one proposal evaluation by NFDC deputy general mager Raja Chinl, workshop on sound design by SRFTI Prof Abhimonyu Deb, and others”, Riba disclosed.

“The festival will also have competitive sections of short films, documentary, feature films and debut feature films respectively. Eight feature film entries alongwith nine debut feature entries, 22 short film entries and 17 documentaries will be screened,” informed Riba.

“The winner of the short, debut feature and documentary film will bag trophy and cash award of Rs 2 lakhs each while the winner of feature film will bag cash award of Rs 5 lakh along with a trophy,” he said.

To celebrate the maiden festival which, Riba disclosed would be a biannual event, in a grand manner, reputed artist and performances like River Symphony, Nise Meruno - classical pianist, Thang Ta, Taba Chake-finger style guitarist, Borkung Hrangkhawl- Rapper from Tripura, would perform during the award ceremony.

Film Federation of Aruchal (FFA) President Chopa Cheda in his address appealed the media fraternity as well as the people of the state to voluntarily get engaged in the event for its successful completion and to showcase the state as well as region’s unique culture and traditions to a wider audience.

“The state is getting the opportunity to host such an event and it is the duty of every citizens to provide unique hospitality to the guests during the event,” Cheda added.
